Concussion Testing
... What is it?What is a concussion? What is concussion testing?
A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury, or TBI, caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that can change the way the brain normally works. Concussions can also occur from a fall or a blow to the body that causes the head and brain to move quickly back and forth.
After a concussion occurs, it is important to measure how well your brain functions post-injury. Knowing this information can assist in planning an effective rehabilitation program. As a result, a valid Baseline Concussion Impact Test is the first step to effective concussion management.
What is a Baseline Impact Concussion Test?
These baseline tests and post-injury tests are computerized assessments that measure Reaction Time, Memory Capacity, Speed of Mental Processing, and Executive Functioning of the brain. They also record baseline concussion symptoms and provide extensive information about an individual’s history with concussions.
What is needed for a Baseline Concussion Test?
The baseline tests that Dr. Proutsos uses are computer-based and can be taken anywhere with an internet connection. Typically, baseline tests take 30-45 minutes to administer, and can be done for both individual athletes and groups.
